LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested an alleged human smuggler from Gujrat on Monday in connection with the Turbat massacre of twenty people.
On November 15, fifteen bodies were found in Buleda area of Turbat tehsil in Kech district of Balochistan. The bodies bore bullet wounds and were of people from different parts of Punjab, including Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot.
On November 17, five more bodies were found in the same tehsil, Turbat, albeit at the distance from the previous spot.
It was found out the deceased were en route to Europe through Iran for jobs.
Speaking to Geo News, FIA Deputy Director Khalid Anis claimed that the suspect, Sohail Shakeel, was arrested on the charge of facilitating the illegal journey to Germany via Turbat, during which five laborers were killed by the terrorists.
Anis said that the suspect’s brother, Humayun Shakil, is based in Germany, and also ran the human smuggling business in coordination with the arrested suspect.
The FIA has also claimed to have arrested one person from Quetta.
Sadiq, known as Talib within the human smuggling network, has also been arrested, Anis said.
The suspect would impersonate an Iranian national and illegally take people from Quetta to Iran, he said, adding, "The victims had stayed with Sadiq in Quetta."
He was arrested on the pointing out of another under-custody human smuggler, Waheed, said the official.
"Waheed had handed over one of the Turbat victims, Zulfikar, to Sadiq in Quetta," he explained further.
