ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Monday of approval for MNA Zahid Hamid’s resignation from the position of law minister.
According to the notification, President Mamnoon Hussain has accepted Hamid’s resignation on the advice of the prime minister under Section 3 of Article 92 of the Constitution.
As per law, a federal minister or minister of state may resign his office or be removed from office by the president on the advice of the prime minister.
Therefore, the appointment of Hamid as the minister for law has been ordered to be immediately de-notified.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi accepted the resignation from Hamid after the voluntarily stepped down from his position late on Sunday.
The decision was taken in the wake of the protests that were carried out across the country after crackdown on November 25 by the policy and paramilitary personnel on the sit-in on the Faizabad interchange.
The sit-in was started over the controversial amendment to the Finality of Prophethood declaration for electoral candidates. The issue erupted even though the error was rectified soon after it was made.
However, according to Hamid, he was not directly responsible for the introduction of the amendment. But, he said, he stepped down to restore peace in the country.
