WELLINGTON: New Zealand were all out for 356 in the 12th over after lunch on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan at the Basin Reserve on Sunday.

Daniel Vettori made 110 and Umar Gul took four for 87.

Earlier, New Zealand were 319 for seven at lunch on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan at the Basin Reserve on Sunday.

Daniel Vettori was on 79 with Reece Young dismissed just before the break for 57.

Daniel Vettori and Reece Young produced a 138-run salvage operation for New Zealand as they went to lunch on Sunday at 319 for seven on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan.

Their partnership ended just before the break when Young was dismissed for 57, his maiden Test half-century, leaving Vettori unbeaten on 79 with Tim Southee yet to score.

Vettori and Young came together with New Zealand in familiar trouble after another top order failure at 180-6 and set about methodically rebuilding the innings.

The captain Vettori brought up his 23rd half-century in his 104th Test and Young brought up his first in only his second Test.

Their defiant stand came to an end 10 balls before lunch when Young slashed at a short ball from Tanvir Ahmed and edged it through to wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal.

Adnan has so far taken six catches in the innings, one short of the Test world record which is shared by four players including former Pakistan 'keeper Wasim Bari.

Fired up by the breakthrough, Tanvir shook new batsman Southee with a short ball that crashed into the batsman's helmet, leaving him stunned and requiring a new helmet.

The wicket lifted Tanvir's figures to three for 93 from 25 overs, while Umar Gul has two for 71 and the most miserly of the Pakistan bowlers, Abdur Rehman, has one for 75 from 40 overs.
