KANDHKOT: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Tuesday said the recent sit-in in Islamabad projected a negative image of the country internationally.

"Those, whom the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) considered its own, stood against the party," Shah said.

The opposition leader said he was hopeful of resolution of the matter pertaining to presentation of a constitutional amendment bill regarding delimitation of new constituencies in next session of the Senate.

The ruling party has been unsuccessful in getting the Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2017, passed by the Senate in the past four sessions of the upper house, as it falls short of voting strength to get the amendment approved.

The bill pertains to the fresh delimitation of constituencies in line with the provisional results of the latest census for general elections next year.

Shah said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) always drew its strength from the parliament and dutifully strengthened the legislative body in return.

On Monday, the PPP leader said that the PML-N had approached him through its ally, Chief of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai and requested for support on the delimitation bill.

In an earlier address on Monday, he had come down hard on the ruling party and said that the ‘government [in Pakistan] does not exist anymore.’

He had said that a grand alliance is created each time elections are held.

Shah had also addressed the possibility of early elections, stating that PPP wants the general elections to be held on time and the government to complete its tenure.
