Happy to be here, says Nelson Mandela’s grandson after arriving in Lahore

Mandla Mandela is in Pakistan at the invitation of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri

LAHORE: Mandla Mandela, the grandson of the late anti-apartheid hero, former South African president Nelson Mandela, arrived in Lahore on Thursday.

Mandla, who is a member parliament of South Africa, is on a visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Dr Tahirul Qadri, the head of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

According to PAT representatives, the South African dignitary will attend PAT’s ‘Tajdar-e-Khatam-e-Nabbuwat Conference’. 

It is Mandla Mandela’s first visit to Pakistan after accepting Islam. Mandla has arrived from Medina, Saudi Arabia.

Speaking to media at the airport, he said: “I am very happy to come here. I am not here for any political interests, my grandfather also loved Pakistan.”

He added that he is proud to celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi with the people of Pakistan.

Mandla Mandela converted to Islam in 2016.
