ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said on Sunday that the supremacy of the constitution will not be compromised, adding that the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz is going through a rough phase.

The federal minister was addressing the inauguration ceremony of senior politician Javed Hashmi’s book in the capital.

Rafique said that the all the political parties including the opposition worked for the freedom of judiciary although it “wasn’t to see this day”.

“We thought the dream of achieving judicial freedom has been fulfilled,” remarked Rafique.

Rafique said that the country doesn’t have real democracy even today. He further said that democracy will not strengthen due to change of loyalties.

“No artificial party can continue working for long,” he said.

The federal minister further said that it would have been better if the Muttahida Quami Movement was allowed to make decisions on its own, adding that ‘nothing can become of the Pak Sarzameen Party’.

On the looming announcement of senior politician Javed Hashmi rejoining the PML-N, Rafique said that veteran politicians should be valued.

“The party was responsible for Javed Hashmi’s departure,” said the federal minister, adding that no one can deny Hashmi’s political value.

Rafique lamented that the party couldn’t nurture democratic values. “Political parties should be allowed to run their own political course” he added.

Veteran politician Hashmi is likely to meet former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday, where he is to formally announce his re-merger with the PMl-N.

Hashmi, joined the PTI in 2011, after serving the PML-N for a long time. In 2014, he left the PTI after levelling serious allegations against party chairman Imran Khan.
