KARACHI: A fire, which erupted on Tuesday evening in a shopping mall adjacent to Gul Plaza, was brought under control after hours of struggle.

The furniture storage room on the building’s ninth floor caught fire initially, after which it reached other nearby shops.

The fire gutted around seven shops in the building, which contained furniture and plastic material, said the fire brigade officials.

After receiving the news of fire, three fire brigade vehicles and a snorkel reached the site, said the officials.

The fire was said to be caused by short-circuit and huge clouds of smoke were seen issuing from the area.

According to eye witnesses, the fire brigade vehicles reached the site after a delay of 45 minutes, while the officials were able to take the water pipe to the ninth floor after an hour.
