KARACHI: Police on Wednesday released three suspects in Zafir Khan murder case for want of evidence, Geo News reported.
Zafir Khan, 18, was shot dead and his friend injured during a road rage incident near Karachi's Sea View beach on December 3.
Police had arrested Khawar Burni, the prime suspect, along with some other suspects for their involvement in the murder with the help of CCTV footage of the incident.
The police submitted a report to Judicial Magistrate South declaring three suspects, Hassan Burni, Haider Hussain and Raza Burni, as not guilty.
An investigation officer in the case told the court that the police found no evidence to try the aforementioned in the murder case.
The officer asked that the suspects be released as eyewitness also did not identify them as accomplices.
The court approved the police application, following which the three were released today.
The police also told the court that two suspects, Khawar Burni and Abdul Rehman, were on judicial remand.
Eyewitnesses said four people were on their way on Sunday, Dec 3, in a car from Do Darya in DHA's Phase 8 when they reportedly hit a sports bike from behind and sped away.
A few moments later, their car was chased down, stopped by a double-cabin vehicle — which was escorting the injured biker — and was fired upon by people from inside.
Police said that after allegedly firing at least nine times at the car, the men in the vehicle climbed out and beat up the passengers.
