RAWALPINDI: Divisional Peace Committee chaired by Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Zahid Saeed on Monday discussed security arrangements in the city for Chehlum of Hazarat Imam Husain (AS).
During the course of meeting, Saeed urged all the religious scholars to play their role in promoting tolerance and religious harmony among the different sects to maintain law and order in the division. He said it was difficult to maintain peace without cooperation among religious scholars in the backdrop of current wave of clash between the two groups in Deri Hasan Abad on Friday. He said the administration and participants of mourning processions should follow the timings and their allotted routes.
The commissioner urged them to follow the timings of prayers. “The religious harmony will remain intact if people of all sects exhibit brotherhood, tolerance and patience,” he said.
He requested the religious scholars not to invite such speakers who spread hatred and intolerance, adding, the followers should be directed to keep sharp eyes at the activities of miscreants. He said the administration would not tolerate any violation of traditional routes and the timings of mourning processions.
He said no one should take law into their hands, as the police and administration knew how to handle the situation. MNA Malik Abrar, MPAs Malik Sarfraz and Sher Ali Khan, Acting District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zubair Khan, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Hamid Mukhtar Gondal and religious scholars including Maulana Ashfaq Tauheedi, Maulana Azhar Hussin Bukhari, Maulana Chiraghuddin, Shaukat Abbas Jaffri, Abdul Majeed Hazarvi and others attended the meeting.
