KARACHI: A delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) mission led by Director Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, Makoto Djiro, held a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at he Chief Minister House here on Friday.
The ADB team briefed the Chief Minister about loan project with regard to rehabilitation and repairs of Naseer Canal in Mirpurkhas Division. He also highlighted the components of development agenda and ADB’s assistance to Pakistan.
He was informed that ADB is providing assistance worth $400 million, and the project of rehabilitation of Naseer Canal in Sindh will cost $120 million, out of which $ 100 million will be spent upto June 2011.
Makoto Ojiro informed that ADB will also work for repair of network of irrigation system.
Chief Minister Sindh appreciated the cooperation and financial assistance of ADB and said that there is an acute and urgent need of technical and financial assistance for rehabilitation and repairs of irrigation system and flood protective bunds in the province.
He hoped that ADB will play a proper role for the maintenance of irrigation system and boosting up agriculture in the province.
The meeting was attended among by Advisor to CM for (P&D) Qaisar Bengali, Sindh Secretary Agriculture Agha Jan Akhtar, Secretary Irrigation Rafik Memon, Secretary to CM Ahmed Bux Narejo and others.
