MULTAN: A woman was among the three people who died of seasonal influenza in the city’s Nishtar Hospital, bringing the total tally since December 15 to 31.
The deceased include a woman from Muzaffargarh, and two men from Rajanpur and Multan, respectively.
Multan health department spokesman told Geo that 12 people suffering from or on suspicion of the viral are under treatment in Nishtar Hospital.
The overall death toll due to the viral in South Punjab has increased to 38.
Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has already taken notice of the spread of influenza and directed relevant authorities to take all possible measures for its prevention. He also advised them to organise awareness campaigns regarding the illness.
Seasonal influenza can spread through contact with the bacteria discharged by an infected person's coughing and sneezing.
Pregnant women, senior citizens, and children are at higher risk of contracting the disease.
