ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who is also Chairman of the Judicial Commission on Thursday convened the meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan on Saturday in the Supreme Court Building, Islamabad.
According to Supreme Court's office, the meeting will consider the appointment of two Ad-hoc Judges in the Supreme Court and confirmation of nine Additional Judges of High Court of Sindh.
It may be mentioned here that during a meeting held on February 14, the Chief Justice of Pakistan proposed that in order to clear the backlog of the pendency, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehmman Ramday and Justice Rahmat Hussain Jaffery who retired a few months ago, may be requested to rejoin the bench as Ad-hoc Judges under Article 182 of the Constitution to work for a period of one and two years respectively. The Full Court Meeting unanimously agreed the proposal.
According to Article 182 of the Constitution that if at any time it is not possible for want of quorum of Judges of the Supreme Court to hold or to continue any sitting of the Court, or for any other reason it is necessary to increase temporarily the number of Judges of Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of Pakistan in consultation with the Judicial Commission as provided in clause (2) of Article 175 A with the approval of the President, request any person who has held the office of a Judge of that Court to attend sittings as an ad-hoc Judge for such period as may be necessary.
According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court on February 14, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday and Justice Rahmat Hussain Jaffery have been pleased to accept the proposal in wider institutional interest.
