Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have announced they are separating after nearly nine years of marriage.

Tatum posted a shocking joint announcement on his Twitter account on Monday.

"Love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now," the joint statement read.

It added, “There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realising it's time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible".

The couple will continue to be "loving dedicated parents" to their four-year-old daughter Everly.

"We won’t be commenting beyond this, and we thank you all in advance for respecting our family’s privacy," the statement said.

The two first met while filming Step Up in 2006, a dance movie in which the duo played high school students who came from different lifestyles but fell in love with each other.
