Quetta receives hailstorm
QUETTA: The provincial capital Quetta and outskirts received torrential rain with hailstorm on Tuesday.

The provincial capital, central and northern parts of the province have been receiving intermittent rains since last five days.

The rain started lashing the region after westerly widespread rain system entered Balochistan from Iranian side.

Geoscientist Razzaq Khan Khilji said that sub-surface water table of Quetta city had further went down to 1,000 to 1,200 feet deep and as a result, over 2,000 tube-wells had dried up in the city.

He suggested that a three to four feet stone and concerete wall should be erected in foot area of four mountains surrounding Quetta city including Koh Mehrdar, Koh Zarghoon, Koh Takato and Koh Chiltan so that sub-surface water table of the city could be recharged with stored rainwater adding that presently cemented floor of the entire city had become a hindrance in recharge of underground water level with rainwater.
