CJP warns Govt ‘not to test patience’

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday allowed the government more time till Wednesday to implement its ruling on the removal of DG FIA along with other senior police officials serving on contractual basis, Geo News reported.

The Chief Justice warned that an order could be issued but the court is observing patience and restraint, therefore, the court must not be put through a test.

The larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry held hearing of the Hajj Scandal case.

The CJP in his remarks said there has been no progress in the investigation of the case and that the FIA was facing pressure.

During the hearing, Additional DG FIA told the court that, in spite of restriction, 448 people had performed Hajj at government expense during the last two years.

In a case regarding contractual officials of police, Secretary Establishment presented a list before the court.

The court was informed that all the 14 officers serving on contractual basis in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa had been removed. In Sindh 43 out of 83 had been terminated while 12 were reinstated and review of 28 was underway.

The court sought details in connection with the promotion of juniors in Balochistan.

Secretary Establishment told the court, after consulting the government, that immediate removal of DG FIA was not possible at the moment due to some impediments.

The Interior Secretary presented a classified summary regarding the need for having Wasim Ahmed to the court.

The Chief Justice said the summary would be ridiculed (if made public), so it is better to keep it classified.

The court also dismissed a petition for having the Hajj case investigated by Military Intelligence.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till March 16.
