RAWALPINDI: More than 2.7 million sapling of different species will be planted during the tree plantation campaign in Rawalpindi Division.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Zahid Saeed inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling in his office and directed the heads of all the educational and other institutions of the division to plant maximum trees during the drive.
Chief Conservator Forest, Raja Muhammad Khalid, Conservator Forest Saadat Ali Khan, DFO Saqib Mahmood, EDO Agriculture, Hameedullah Shah and other senior officials were present at the inauguration.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said "it is our national obligation to plant and grow trees aimed at eradicating environmental pollution and making the atmosphere beautiful".
He said that monitoring will be ensured by the Revenue officials and also directed to plant saplings at the basic health units, rural health centres and tehsil headquarters.
Giving the briefing, Chief Conservator Forest, Raja Muhammad Khalid informed that a target of planting 2.7 million saplings will be achieved out of which the government of Punjab will plant 700,000 saplings in the forest.
He said that special duties of guards will be ensured to monitor that all the saplings could grow as trees and increase the numbers.
