Political leaders cast their vote in by-election 2018

Prominent political leaders including Khawaja Saad Rafique and PSP chief Mustafa Kamal cast their votes

KARACHI: Leaders from various political parties, including those contesting the by-election 2018, reached polling stations in their respective constituencies to cast their ballots in the by-election on Sunday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan cast his vote in NA-53 constituency of Islamabad amid strict security. This was one of the five seats won by the prime minister in the 2018 general election. He later vacated the seat opting to keep the National Assembly seat from his hometown of Mianwali.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique cast his ballot in Lahore’s NA-131, from where he is contesting the by-election against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Humayun Akhtar. Rafique was the runner-up to Prime Minister Imran Khan on this seat in the 2018 general election.

In Karachi, Pak Sarzameen Party Chairman Mustafa Kamal cast his vote at polling station 74 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, NA-243 constituency. Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Amir Chishti, who is also contesting the polls, cast his ballot in polling station 111 of the constituency. 

Moreover, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid leader Moonis Elahi along with his father and Punjab Assembly speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi voted in NA-69 at a government school in Gujrat. 

PTI leader Mansoor Khan voted in NA-63 Rawalpindi, while Ali Nawaz Khan from the same party cast his ballot in NA-53 Islamabad.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser also cast his ballot at a government school in the PK-44 constituency in Marghuz, Swabi.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived at the Government College of Science and Technology polling station but was unable to cast his vote in the NA-124 constituency of Lahore. Sharif was not allowed to cast his vote because he did not have his national identity card. 

Voting for the by-election on 35 national and provincial assemblies commenced at 8AM today (Sunday), with more than 300 candidates, including some political bigwigs, in the running.
