Karachi's NA-243 had the least voter turnout in the by-election

The Election Commission of Pakistan has released voter turnout figures for the October 14 by-election. The figures show a higher per cent turnout of voters in provincial assemblies compared to constituencies in the National Assembly. Voters for Punjab Assembly seats had the highest per cent turnout, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa having the lowest.

Karachi’s NA-243 constituency had the least voter turnout in the by-election. The constituency, won by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Alamgir Khan, saw a turnout of 15.71 per cent. This was 12.6 per cent lower than the average voter turnout on 11 National Assembly constituencies where the by-election was held. In the 2018 general election, Prime Minister Imran Khan won from this constituency with a voter turnout of 41.13 per cent.

The National Assembly constituency with the largest voter turnout was Faisalabad’s NA-103 (48 per cent) where the general election had been postponed. This was followed by Attock’s NA-56 (39.09 per cent) and NA-63 in Rawalpindi (33.01 per cent).

The provincial assemblies saw a higher voter turnout (35.71 per cent) compared to the National Assembly. The three provincial assembly constituencies with the highest voter turnout were all from Punjab. PP-165 (Lahore XXII) had a turnout of 54.89 per cent with PP-103 (Faisalabad VII) and PP-118 (Toba Tek Singh I) also seeing over 50 per cent of registered voters casting their ballot.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dera Ismail Khan’s PK-99 had a voter turnout of 43.35 per cent which was the highest in the province. There were three constituencies (PK-44, PK-61, PK-97) which had a turnout of less than 20 per cent.

Both the constituencies up for grabs in Sindh saw a turnout of over 30 per cent, while Mastung’s PB-35 in Balochistan had a turnout of 39.43 per cent. The Election Commission of Pakistan did not release voter turnout figures for PB-40.
