DERA GHAZI KHAN: Nineteen people, including three brothers, were killed as two buses collided near Ghazi Ghat on Sunday night.
Thirty-five people were injured in the collision and were shifted to a hospital for treatment. An emergency was declared at the hospital immediately after the accident, rescue officials said.
Sources said some 70 people were travelling from DG Khan to Multan when their bus met with the accident. Most of them hail from Multan and are related to each other, sources said, adding that all the deceased were relatives and those who died included three brothers as well.
The bodies of two of the deceased people were transported to Pul Bararan, Multan, sources added.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed sorrow over the loss of precious human lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
Buzdar also directed the commissioner and RPO to immediately reach the site of accident. He also directed the hospital administration to provide the best treatment to the injured.
Speaking to Geo News, the Punjab chief minister said he has summoned a report of the accident from officials.
Meanwhile, Commissioner DG Khan Tahir Khursheed and Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhatti visited the injured at the hospital.
Prime Minister Imran Khan also expressed sorrow over the incident and directed authorities to ensure that proper medical treatment was provided to the wounded people.
Multiple major road accidents were reported this year, resulting in several casualties. In early August, at least 18 people, including women and children, died in a collision between a passenger bus and a tanker.
In July, 11 passengers were killed and several others sustained injuries in a three-vehicle crash near Nawabshah.
