KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar visited the prison cell of Shahrukh Jatoi at the Landhi Jail on Saturday expressing anger at the facilities being provided to the convict.

Jatoi, along with Siraj Talpur and others, is a convict in the Shahzeb Khan murder case.

The chief justice was annoyed at the facilities being provided to Jatoi at the C-Class prison and questioned how someone convicted in a murder case could be allowed such facilities.

“He should have been in the death cell,” the chief justice said to a police official.

CJP Nisar ordered the prison authorities to transfer Jatoi to the death cell and summoned a report from the IG Prisons.

Later, Jatoi was shifted to the death cell at the Central Jail.

The video of the incident showed Jatoi objecting to being filmed during the chief justice’s visit. “How can you film me,” Jatoi said prior to the chief justice entering the cell.

An anti-terrorism court in 2013 had awarded death sentences to Jatoi and Siraj Talpur for the murder of Shahzeb, while life sentences were awarded to Sajjad Ali Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari.

Shahzeb was gunned down by Jatoi in a posh locality of Karachi on December 25, 2012.

The Sindh High Court later set aside the punishments awarded to the accused by the anti-terrorism court and ordered a retrial of the case in a sessions court.

The Supreme Court earlier this year took a sou motu action and nullified the SHC order.
