With Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh tying the knot today, the power couples of Bollywood will have two more superstars joining their ranks.
But before the two walk down the aisle or in their case take seven around the fire, here are some of the most powerful couples in Bollywood.
A love story as old as time, Dilip Kumar tied the knot at the age of 45 with the then 22-year-old Bollywood diva Saira Banu.
Having seen their fair share of ups and downs, the tragedy king of Bollywood and his partner did not let the testing times weaken their resolve.
Despite a 23-year difference between the couple and several rocky years the two have stood beside each other.
A Bollywood drama like any, Dharmendra and Hema Malini life perfectly eclipsed a Bollywood film.
When the mighty Dharmendra fell for the Hindi Cinema’s Dream Girl, he was married to someone else, but just like any good movie, the guy always gets the girl in the end.
Hema on the other hand, almost got married to Jeetendra, but when a drunk Dharmendra came to know about the wedding, he stormed into Hema’s place followed by what followed was as Bollywood as you can get. Livid parents, angry about-to-be-groom, a shaken Hema and an extremely upset and emotional Dharmendra.
Despite the odds, the two have been together for 38 years.
Another fairy-tale Bollywood couple, Sunil Dutt met his long-time crush Nargis for the first time during the mid-1950s on the sets of Do Bigha Zamin. Still, at the beginning of his career, Dutt was still finding his feet when a fire scene went wrong on the sets of Mother India.
Nargis was trapped in a ring of fire when Sunil barged in armed with nothing but a blanket and rescued her.
The two started dating during the filming of Mother India and married soon after.
One of the most followed couples of their time, Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia was today’s equivalent of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
What made their wedding such a hot topic in Bollywood was the fact, Dimple was a teenager when she married Rajesh.
Despite their marriage not surviving for more than 10 years, the couple never filed for divorced and Dimple leaving Bollywood to raise her two children.
In the entertainment industry being together for more than 10 years is nothing short of a feat. Defining the odds Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan have been together for more than four decades.
Amitabh and Jaya met on the sets of Guddi (1971) and went on to star in films such as Ek Nazar and Bansi Birju among others.
They got married in June 1973, roughly a month after the release of their film Zanjeer, giving Amitabh the tag of 'angry young man.'
After getting married, they co-starred in films like Abhimaan (1973), Chupke Chupke (1975), Mili (1975) and Silsila (1981).
The chocolate boy of Bollywood industry, Rishi Kapoor broke a million hearts when he declared his love for Neetu Singh.
A fairy tale on its own, Kapoor and Singh’s wedding had its own share of twists and turns.
The Kapoor family was known to be very patriarchal and a Kapoor bahu was expected to leave the industry and become a housewife. Neetu too did the same and returned all her signing amounts and left the industry for good.
It was not ‘love at first sight’ for Ajay Devgn and Kajol but the 19 years of togetherness and the spark says otherwise.
While Kajol is known for saying things as they are, Ajay is a man of few words. Kajol met Ajay on the sets of 1995 film Hulchul after the film fell in Kajol’s lap after the sudden death of actor Diva Bharti.
However, it was not until the post-production stage of their movie Gundaraj, that the two started dating and eventually tied the knot in a typical Maharashtrian style wedding on February 24, 1999, at Ajay’s residence.
A more modern Bollywood drama the members of the most powerful couple in Bollywood raised a few eyebrows when they started dating in 2007.
The couple officially sealed the deal in 2012 in a week-long celebration after living together for five years.
In an interview, Kareena shared “God has been very kind to me. I am lucky to have found this man who is so modern, so liberated. He’s much more intelligent than me. I like the fact that he is so well read and that I can count on him for everything.”
Another celebrated Bollywood couple, Abhishek Bachan and Aishwarya Rai met on the sets of the movie, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke (2000), and later worked on another film, Kuch Naa Kaho (2003), however it was in 2006-2007, when they really got together while shooting together for three films, Umrao Jaan, Guru and Dhoom 2 that the two started going out.
Abhishek and Aishwarya tied the knot in 2007.
