SHEIKHUPURA: A stationary oil tanker erupted in flames, killing one person after a speeding truck rammed into it Wednesday night here near the Mandiali Toll Plaza on the city's outskirts, security and rescue authorities said.
The oil tanker, which had stopped at the toll plaza to pay the toll tax, immediately burst into a raging fire on impact, rescue officials said. The blaze was so intense, it spread from the heavy duty vehicle to the truck as well as three cabins of the toll booth.
Oil tanker and truck driver leapt from their respective vehicles to save themselves while employees at the toll plaza ran from their cabins to avoid being burnt.
However, the truck conductor succumbed to death after being severely burnt.
The blaze was brought under control and doused by five fire brigade vehicles that were dispatched to the site of the crash.
