NAROWAL: At least 12 children were injured as a passenger train collided with a school van at Pejowali Railway Crossing near Narowal on Tuesday.

Rescue sources said the Lasani Express Train to Lahore from Narowal collided with the school van near Pejowali Station owing to dense fog and as the gate at the crossing was open.

The children were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where five were discharged shortly after but seven are still under treatment.

DHQ Medical Superintendent Dr Latif Afzal said the children are out of danger.

Similar accidents have occurred on railway crossings across the country in the past as gates are not installed at the crossings or there are no gate-keepers to avert such incidents.
