PM Imran expresses grief over Ali Raza Abidi’s killing, seeks report

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also strongly condemned the former lawmaker’s killing

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed profound grief over the assassination of former lawmaker and Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Syed Ali Raza Abidi.

The former MNA was gunned down outside his residence in Khayaban-e-Ghazi neighbourhood of Defense Housing Authority (DHA).

The prime minister expressed condolence to the bereaved family and summoned a report on the matter.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also strongly condemned the former lawmaker’s killing. He expressed grief and said that Abidi always played an effective role in politics.

CM Sindh order special team to investigate killing

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah condemned the killing of the MQM leader, according to his spokesman.

The CM Sindh gave directions to the Inspector General of Police Sindh to ensure law and order situation is stable in the city.

Shah also gave directions constitution of a special team to investigate Abidi’s murder, added the spokesman.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb condemned the incident and demanded a high-level inquiry should be made to arrest the culprits.

“Ali Raza Abidi was a well-mannered, educated political worker and parliamentarian who presented his point of view with great conviction and logic,” she said.

PPP chairman condemns killing, demands arrest of culprits

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto extended condolence to the bereaved family, while strongly condemning the incident.

“Ali Raza Abidi’s killing is a conspiracy to disrupt Karachi’s peace and law and order situation in the country,” said Bilawal Bhutto.

“The real culprits behind Abidi’s killing should be arrested,” he said.

Unknown assailants shot Abidi as soon as he disembarked from his vehicle outside his residence, the official said.

Speaking exclusively to Geo News, Abidi's father Ikhlaq Abidi said his son sustained two bullets to his neck and one in torso. He said the assailants were riding a motornbike.

Abidi was immediately shifted to PNS Shifa Hospital in critical condition. He, however, succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.
