CJP asks govt to look into matter of increase in number of IHC judges

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Saturday asked the government to look into the matter of increase in number of judge of Islamabad High Court (IHC) or else the apex court would take a suo motu notice.

During his conversation with Additional Attorney General Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, the chief justice recounted that the government was forwarded recommendations pertaining to increasing number of judges in the IHC during the tenure of caretaker government.

Justice Nisar said there were only four judges in the IHC, who were greatly burdened. He said a two-member bench of the IHC could not be constituted owing to shortage of judges.

Questioning the additional attorney general as to why the government was not increasing number of judges in IHC, the chif justice noted, "All high courts across the country are important, but the Islamabad High Court has some very important cases."

He further asked the government to look into the matter or else the Supreme Court would take a suo motu notice.
