JI to hold election campaign rally in Karachi today
KARACHI: Workers and supporters of the Jamaat-e-Islami were gearing up to hold a political rally in Karachi on Sunday as part of an election campaign for the upcoming by-poll in the NA-246 constituency.

Final preparations were being made for the rally on Shahrae Pakistan near Aisha Manzil, where party chief Sirajul Haq and other JI leaders will address party workers and supporters.

The JI chief says that citizens desire political change in search of a peaceful Karachi.

A large number of chairs had been arranged for the members attending the event, with a makeshift stage made on top of a shipping container.

The rally is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM today.

The NA-246 seat — said to be a stronghold of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement — fell vacant after Nabil Gabol tendered his resignation and quit the MQM.

Candidates of the MQM, JI and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is allied with the JI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, have fielded candidates for the by-poll scheduled for April 23.
