KARACHI: Former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair was intercepted by unknown men in Defence Phase VI area of the metropolis late Tuesday night.

“I was driving home with my wife around 11:30pm when a car intercepted us on Saba Avenue. When I saw a pistol in the hand of one of the suspects in the car, I sped off,” the former provincial governor said.

Zubair said he has been receiving threats for the past three to four years. “I have never asked for security and the government did not provide it either,” he added.

“However, the government should review security arrangements in light the incidents during the last two months,” the former Sindh governor said.

Speaking to the media, his son, Ahsan Zubair, said, “No one has contacted us following the incident. The government should take a decision regarding security itself after considering the current situation.”

Top police officials did not immediately reach the site of the incident. However, later SHO Darakshan Arshad Janjua visited Zubair’s house and told the media that the former Sindh governor will visit the police station on Wednesday morning to initiate legal proceedings.
