ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa in his first case as the top judge of the country rejected a plea by a man arrested for peddling drugs on Friday.
Justice Khosa, who was sworn in as the 26th chief justice of the country earlier today, rejected Noor Muhammad’s plea for a reduced sentence while hearing criminal cases at Court No 1.
The court in its verdict said the witness in the case is a government official, who bears no ill-will to the offender.
Noor Muhammad had earlier been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for possessing 1,200kg of drugs.
Chief Justice Khosa replaced Chief Justice (retd) Mian Saqib Nisar, whose tenure came to an end with his retirement on Thursday.
Khosa, 64, will serve as the chief justice for almost eleven months and will retire on December 20 this year.
