Emirates Airline, the world's largest international carrier, will be reducing its baggage allowance for some Economy flyers from February 4.
The Dubai-based carrier said on its website that the baggage allowance for some Economy Class tickets will be reduced by five kilograms.
Recently, the airline separated Economy fares into four ticket types: Special, Saver, Flex and Flex Plus. According to Emirates’ new baggage policy, Special and Saver ticket holders will have an available baggage allowance of 15kg and 25kg, respectively. Originally, these tickets allowed for 20kg and 30kg of baggage.
Baggage allowance for Flex and Flex Plus tickets will remain unchanged at 30kg and 35kg, respectively, as will baggage rules for tickets for flights in Business and First Classes.
The new weight allowances apply to all Emirates routes, with the exception of those for travel to and from destinations in the Americas and travel from Africa.
“After a careful review of customer feedback and their travel preferences, Emirates can confirm that we will be updating our standard free baggage allowance for Economy Class travel, effective for bookings made on or after 4th February 2019,” the airline said in a statement.
“This adjustment enables Emirates to offer our customers more flexibility to select the fare and associated benefits that best meet their travel needs.”
Tickets issued before February 4 – for travel at any date – will still follow the former baggage allowance policy.
