LAHORE: The main complainant in the Sahiwal killings, Jalil, on Wednesday refused to appear before a joint investigation team (JIT) probing the case owing to which the identification parade of the suspects could not take place once again.

Local magistrate and JIT members reached the jail at 10am for the identification parade of the suspects in the Sahiwal ‘encounter’. However, the witnesses and complainant Jalil, the brother of Khalil who along with his wife and teenage daughter was killed in the alleged encounter, refused to appear before the JIT.

During a telephonic conversation, Jalil said that they will not appear before the JIT. “We have presented our recommendations to the Standing Committee on Interior and have demanded the formation of a judicial commission. We will only appear before the judicial commission that is formed,” Jalil said.

Following the refusal of the main complainant and witnesses to appear, the civil judge postponed the identification parade till tomorrow.

On January 19, four people — including three members of the Khalil family — were killed in an alleged encounter in Sahiwal. Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel said they had killed a local commander of militant organisation Daesh and three others in the operation.
