Pashto actress Lubna Gulalai murdered by admirer: police

MARDAN: Pashto actress Lubna Gulalai was murdered after violence by an acquaintance/admirer in Mardan, police said on Monday.

Police said that a man identified as Nawab confessed to killing her. The suspect alleged that he murdered the actress for befriending other people and sharing his sisters’ pictures on social media.

Lubna’s body was found from Chamdheri area of Mardan on Saturday. According to the medical report, she was murdered by strangling.

Police has registered a case under the deceased’s sister against three suspects, out of which two were arrested.

Further investigation is under way, police added.

The violence against stage dancers from the Northern province has seen a surge over time.

In August last year, Pashto stage actress and singer Resham alias Reshma was shot dead by her husband.

On February 3, 2018, a stage actress named Sunbul was killed in an armed attack, police officials had confirmed.

The grandfather of the victim said that three attackers entered the actress' Maltoon Town residence and shot her fatally after she refused to leave with them.
