FAISALABAD: A minor girl working as domestic help in the city's Guru Nanak Pura area has been subjected to brutal torture by the owners of the house she was working in, according to a video that went viral on social media.

10-year-old Areej Fatima ran away from the house, exhausted of the pain and fearing further abuse at the hands of her employers, and was handed over to the area's councillor by a rickshaw driver who had found her.

Councillor Afzal Ahmed — from the area under Gulberg police station's jurisdiction — then made a video of the girl, showing the marks on her body from the horrific torture as well as her arm that was broken due to the abuse, and published it on social media.

According to Ahmed, the girl was subjected to awful abuse by the owners and various other members of the family. They beat her with sticks, fractured her arm, and also did not provide her food.

The girl's parents, on the other hand, discovered the story of the abuse inflicted on their daughter through social media and have appealed to top officials to provide her and them with justice.

The parents, residents of Jaranwala, have also demanded the required action in this regard. Her father explained that she was working at the house for a mere salary worth Rs4,000; however, they were not allowed to meet their daughter for a long time.
