LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, who remains incarcerated at Kot Lakhpat jail, has declined Punjab government's offer for his medical treatment.

The former prime minister has been imprisoned at Kot Lakhpat jail since December 2018, following his conviction in a corruption reference in line with the Supreme Court’s July 2017 verdict.

According to details, PML-N President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif met his elder brother in jail last night.

Nawaz once again refused to be shifted to hospital despite insistence from his family members.

He told his brother that he was taken to Services Hospital, PIC and Jinnah Hospital, where doctors said they were asked by the government only to diagnose the disease and could not initiate treatment.

"Doctors expressed helplessness with regard to initiating treatment and said they were not mandated for this," the former premier said. "I will not tolerate government's non-serious behaviour and further humiliation again."

He said the government intended to make a mockery of him once again.

Speaking to media after meeting Nawaz, Shehbaz said victimising and doing politics over treatment of thrice the prime minister of Pakistan was regretful.

He said his brother's condition was not satisfactory and the former premier continuously suffering from angina for past several days.

"But despite ailment, Nawaz Sharif is determined and has faith in Almighty Allah," the NA opposition leader said.

He further stated that senior cardiologists had examined Nawaz a day ago, who had expressed serious concerns with regard to his health.

"Doctors once again suggested initiating Nawaz Sharif's treatment immediately," Shehbaz said.

"Nawaz Sharif has been facing cardiac issues since January, but the government kept on demonstrating insensitivity."

He said the former premier was grateful for well wishes of members of the opposition, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

"He is also thankful for the well wishes of the people," the NA opposition leader added.

Speaking to media in Lahore, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said politics should not be done on someone's health, however, a few members of the PML-N intend to do politics on this issue.

He said it was a good thing if Bilawal wanted to inquire after Nawaz Sharif.
