LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has stopped the new Joint Investigation Team in the Model Town case from working, as it suspended the notification pertaining to its formation.
On January 3, Home Department of Punjab had constituted a new JIT for probing 2014 killing of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers in clashes with police in Lahore's Model Town.
The LHC announced the decision today, which was reserved regarding the formation of the new JIT.
The court while maintaining the pleas for hearing against the new JIT, sent a notice to the Punjab government regarding its decision.
On December 5, 2018, the Supreme Court had ordered the Punjab government to form a new JIT in the Model Town case.
At least 14 people were killed and 100 others injured in police action against PAT workers in Lahore on June 17, 2014. The then Punjab government, at the behest of the LHC, made the report for the Model Town incident public on December 5, 2017.
