With India breaking into the world of Netflix, it looks like Pakistan might just be getting in there.
And what better way to get there than with an adaptation of Omar Shahid Hamid’s novel The Party Worker.
In a cryptic tweet sent out by the former senior superintendent of Sindh Police, the author hinted without any confirmation that his third book The Party Worker is being adapted into a film/series for Netflix.
"Funny you should mention it. Just signed a film/series deal for The Party Worker. #ThePartyWorker #netflixherewecome #ifallelsefailsHumtvzindabad,” Hamdi tweeted.
Released in 2017, The Party Worker is a pace thriller revolving around a political party’s chief hit-man having betrayed ‘the party’ is getting ready for a meeting. Even thousands of miles away from the city ‘the party’ holds in its grip and the ‘party worker’ is afraid for his safety. The book explores the inextricable link of politics and violence in Pakistan’s busiest city, Karachi.
Hamid’s first novel The Prisoner (2013), inspired by the 2002 kidnapping and killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was longlisted for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2015. His second novel is The Spinner’s Tale (2015).
