US envoy, COAS discuss Afghan reconciliation process

The two figures also discuss overall security situation of the region, the ISPR says

RAWALPINDI: US special representative Zalmay Khalilzad Friday called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed with him the ongoing Afghan reconciliation process, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Friday.

The meeting took place at General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, according to the ISPR, during which overall regional security situation with particular reference to ongoing Afghan reconciliation process came under discussion.

On the occasion, the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s efforts towards the ongoing peace process, the ISPR added.

Earlier this morning, delegation-level talks between Pakistan and the United States were held at the Foreign Office to discuss progress on the Afghan peace process.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua while the American delegation was headed by Khalilzad.

Followed by delegation-level talks in Islamabad, the US envoy also separately met with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other officials.
