RAWALPINDI: Lance Naik Zafar Iqbal, who was injured in an anti-terrorism operation in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area last week, succumbed to his injuries and embraced martyrdom, the military’s media wing said in a statement on Saturday.

Funeral prayers of Shaheed Lance Naik Zafar Iqbal were offered at Peshawar Garrison, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Corps Commander Peshawar Corps and a large number of military and civil officials attended the funeral.

Body of the shaheed will be taken to his native town Khushab, where he will be buried with full military honours, according to the ISPR.

Five terrorists were killed in the operation, which concluded after a 17-hour standoff between the terrorists and security forces. Police officer ASI Qamar Alam was also martyred in the operation.
