Three of a Lahore family die as speeding SUV loses control in DHA

The deceased were parents and their daughter who had stopped on roadside due to a mechanical fault in the motorcycle

LAHORE: At least three people were killed and four others wounded Monday night in a traffic accident here in the city's Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area when a speeding sport utility vehicles (SUV) lost control and trampled a family on the side of the road before overturning, authorities said.

The deceased were said to be of the same family — parents and their daughter — who had stopped on the roadside near Wateen Chowk owing to a mechanical fault in their motorcycle.

They were identified as Muhammad Rafiq, his wife, Amna, and his young daughter, Aqsa, and all three died on the spot. They were residents of Chungi Amar Sidhu.

All four of the passengers in the SUV that lost control and crashed were seriously wounded, and were returning from a friend's birthday party. They were identified as Ahmed, 23, Wasif, 22, Hina, 20, and Hira, 18, and all were said to be in critical condition.

According to the police, the initial investigation revealed that the friends in the SUV were returning from a birthday party, while the family that died were going home after attending a wedding.

A first information report (FIR) of the accident was registered, police said, adding that a probe had been initiated.
