Months later, APS report still not complete

Even after six months, the commission, probing the 2014 Army Public School attack, has not been able to conclude its findings.

Formed in October last year, on the orders of the Supreme Court, the judicial commission was directed to compile and present its report within two months. But that deadline came and went.

Officials assisting the one-man commission of the Peshawar High Court judge, Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, said the delay was caused by the unavailability of the officers, who were to be interviewed.

From October to date, the commission has recorded the statements of 107 witnesses, including the former corps commander Peshawar, former home secretary, former inspector general and the families of the martyrs.

In December 2014, terrorists attacked and killed over 140 children and teachers at the Army Public School in Peshawar. The parents of the children had been demanding for a thorough investigation into the attack and to hold officials responsible for any security lapse. Finally, last year the chief justice of the Supreme Court took suo moto notice of the incident and ordered the formation of a judicial commission.

It is still unclear when the final report will be completed and made public.
