Meesha Shafi's legal team serves Rs2 billion defamation notice to Ali Zafar

 

LAHORE: Singer Meesha Shafi’s legal team served Rs2 billion defamation notice to Ali Zafar for issuing ‘false, malicious and defamatory statements’ against her on multiple news channels.

Shafi had claimed in April 2018 that she was sexually harassed by Zafar on multiple occasions – Zafar rejected the allegations and filed a defamation suit against Shafi. The notice was sent by Advocate Hina Jeelani and team.

The notice said that Zafar in his brief media talk said that Meesha wants to become Malala, adding that the said remarks also insulted the Nobel laureate.

It said that the ombudsman didn’t absolve Zafar from the charges leveled against him and rejected the petition merely on technical grounds. The legal team said that the case is challenged before Lahore High Court.

It said that their client (Meesha Shafi) got the Canadian citizenship in 2016 hence Zafar’s allegations that she allegedly framed him to move abroad are baseless and false.

Meesha’s lawyers demanded an apology from within 15 days or pay Rs2 billion in damages for defaming her reputation.
