KARACHI: The vice-chancellor of the University of Karachi passed away early Saturday morning here in the city, the institute's spokesperson said.

Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan, the vice-chancellor, had experienced pain in his chest last night, the spokesperson said, adding that his body will soon be moved from the hospital to his residence.

Dr Khan, who had a 40-year long career in teaching, completed his Bachelors in Science degree, specialising in Botany, in 1973, and his Masters in 1974.

Then, in 1985, he completed his PhD in Physiological Ecology from Ohio University.
