KARACHI: Unilever Pakistan on Saturday addressed the controversy surrounding nominations of the Lux Style Awards 2019.

“The nominations for the Lux Style Awards are decided by an independent Jury of industry peers and critics,” the company said in a press release.

The press release added that members of the jury for 2019 were chosen by an independent Board of Governors. “Neither the Lux Style Awards nor Unilever Pakistan has ever intruded in the Jury’s independence and we continue to respect their decisions.”

Unilever Pakistan further said the company was aware of the case involving Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi, adding that the matter was presently sub judice and it would not be appropriate to comment on it.

In protest to sexual harassment, seven nominees of the Lux Style Awards rejected their nominations. These nominees include models Rubab Ali and Eman Suleman, makeup artists Saima Bagfrede and Fatima Nasir, singer Meesha Shafi, rock band The Sketches and clothing brand Generation.
