KARACHI: The owners of Darul Sehat Hospital Amir Chishti and Ali Farhan fled from the court on Tuesday after their interim bail was cancelled.
The two appeared in a local court on Tuesday for their bail hearing in the case pertaining to the death of nine-month-old Nashwa at the Darul Sehat Hospital allegedly due to medical negligence.
Their interim bail which had earlier been extended till May 7 was cancelled. Following proceedings, Chishti and Ali fled with ease before the investigating officer and police did not make an attempt to catch them.
Last week, two of the doctors accused in the case also fled after their bail was cancelled by a local court. Dr Attiya and Dr Sharjeel, who were among the hospital officials arrested over the infant’s death last month, made their escape after a judicial magistrate cancelled their bail. The accused fled from the court premises after the hearing ended.
Speaking to reporters, Qaiser Ali the father of Nashwa announced that he would approach the Supreme Court over the decision to reopen the hospital.
The hospital was sealed following Nashwa’s death but the Sindh High Court ordered for it to be reopened on May 3.
Nine-month-old Nashwa died on April 22 nearly two weeks after she was allegedly given wrong treatment at the Darul Sehat Hospital. According to her father Qaiser Ali, the infant was given an excessive injection, which paralysed her and later caused her death.
According to a report by the Sindh Health Care Commission, the infant had been administered with an overdose of potassium chloride, not via a drip, at the hospital.
A first information report registered by her father stated that he had taken his twin daughters to the Darul Sehat Hospital for treatment of diarrhoea.
More than 20 people have been nominated as accused in the case.
