ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Tuesday he hopes that Prime Minister Imran Khan does not take a u-turn on the recently-approved amnesty scheme.
The PML-N leader was addressing a press conference, where he said that in the past PM Imran Khan and Asad Umar always cast aspersions on the scheme but now this seems fine to them.
Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that time has proved that every PML-N policy is picked up by the current government under PM Imran Khan.
“This is the first time the IMF programme was given a political outlook,” said Abbasi.
Reacting to PML-N leader’s statements, Adviser to PM on information Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the PTI government went to the IMF due to previous government’s policies.
It is corruption within these leaders which speaks up, she said.
The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved a tax amnesty scheme allowing citizens to declared previously undisclosed assets in a bid to identify high earners for more efficient tax collection.
The announcement for the approval of the scheme, made by the Prime Minister's Adviser on Finace Hafeez Sheikh, comes shortly after Pakistan reached a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) securing a $6 billion bailout for the cash-strapped economy as the country struggles to stave off a looming balance-of-payments crisis amid low growth, soaring inflation, and mounting debt.
