Gujranwala man stabs, kills sister-in-law over domestic dispute

GUJRANWALA: A man who stabbed and killed his sister-in-law here in the city over what police said was a trivial domestic dispute was arrested late Thursday night.

The suspect was identified as Sohail, according to Abdul Qayyum Gondal, the superintendent of police (SP), who added that the incident took place in the Ballewala neighbourhood in the Cantt police station's jurisdiction.

A first information report (FIR) was filed against the alleged murderer and an investigation initiated.

As per the initial questioning, Gondal said Sohail was remorseful after having divorced his spouse a few months ago and blamed the daily arguments with the deceased for his separation. His claim led to the fatal fight on Thursday.

When Sohail attacked, his mother tried to break up the fight and save the sister-in-law but the man knifed and severely wounded her as well, the police officer noted.

Further investigation was ongoing, Gondal added.
