NOTTINGHAM: Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan cricket team’s all-rounder and man-of-the in team’s epic 14-run win against England in World Cup encounter, said on Monday that players talked about their past glory to motivate themselves before the game.
Pakistan came back to beat England after losing 11 games consecutively, that include the loss against West Indies in opening game in which the team was bundled for mere 105 runs.
However, on Monday, they made a strong comeback, put 348 on board against England and won the game by 14 runs to gain first points in the tournament.
“We wanted this win, we all were eagerly waiting for a win and thankfully today we have got it,” Hafeez told media after receiving his man of the match award.
“We were hurt after initial defeats and knew that we didn’t do well against West Indies but we all gathered and talked about past innings to motivate ourselves,” he added.
The experienced all-rounder said that although he was the man of the match, but everyone played a part in team’s win and it was a collective effort.
“Team is feeling good after the win,” he highlighted.
“When we were coming for the game today, we all had this thing in mind that today we have to do something and make a comeback,” he said.
He agreed that there is still room for improvement and team will learn from minor mistakes highlighted during the game.
