TOBA TEK SINGH: A 'qari' who was arrested last week for allegedly torturing and sexually assaulting his student for not revising his lesson in the city's Gojra Tehsil was freed on bail Sunday, police said.

Qari Mushtaq — the alleged sexual predator — was arrested after a first information report (FIR) was registered on behalf of the minor boy's grandfather. The case was filed after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

According to Javed Baloch, the station house officer (SHO) for City, the incident occurred on May 22 but the FIR was registered a week later. He said Punjab chief minister had taken notice of the incident, whereafter Qari Mushtaq was presented in the court.

The alleged sexual predator was then sent on a judicial remand but the local magistrate accepted his petition for bail.

On June 4, Qari Mushtaq was apprehended after a video of the incident in People's Colony surfaced and then sent to the jail on a judicial remand.
