LAHORE: A four-member special committee led by former Test cricketer Mohsin Hassan Khan has been tasked to conduct a thorough analysis of the Pakistan cricket team's performance in the World Cup 2019.

The committee – which also comprises of former captains Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq, and former cricketer and head of the women's selection committee Urooj Mumtaz – will submit its recommendations to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following its 'post-mortem examination'.

The special committee was constituted by PCB chairman Ehsan Mani in October last year to oversee all cricketing matters in the country. But the four-member team has now also been tasked to review and analyse the men's team's below par performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

The development came about after the Board's chiefs discussed the team's performance during the 54th PCB' Board of Governors meeting in Lahore on Wednesday presided over by Chairman Ehsan Mani.

According to a press release from the PCB, the Board had a discussion on the Pakistan cricket team’s recent performance across all formats.

"The members agreed the team's performance in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 to date has been below expectation, but expressed faith, support and confidence in the side, and hoped they will utilise all their talent and potential in the remaining matches to bounce back strongly and finish on a high," the Board said in a press release following the meeting.

However, the Board added that it would carry out "a robust review and analysis of the side's and the team support personnel's performances in the past three years" following the World Cup, and that it would submit the recommendations to the Chairman and the BoG for their consideration.

UPDATE: The PCB in a press statement later on Thursday said former cricketer Mohsin Khan stepped down as chair of the special cricket committee, which will now be headed by PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan.
