ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Tuesday the federal government should help tackle the issue of locusts in Sindh.
Speaking outside the Parliament here in the federal capital, he said locusts were destroying crops in Sindh and Balochistan.
"We require assistance on this issue," Bilawal said. "This issue will affect the entire country's economy."
The PPP boss said locust have impacted six districts of Sindh and that the poor farmers in both provinces have suffered a lot to date.
"We condemn the federal government's decision to ignore this important issue.
"[PPP Co-Chairperson] Asif Zardari took up this issue first after getting out of jail," he added.
Stressing that the government should help and provide relief to those affected by locusts, Bilawal said: "Rs1 billion should be released for" these people.
"This is economic murder of poor farmers. They wish to take away all of the provincial government's authority," he said, making a jibe at the centre.
