NA rejects opposition's cut motions, approves Rs1,153 billion defence budget

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday rejected all cut motions proposed by the opposition members by a simple majority of 169-143 and approved a Rs1,153 billion defence budget with consensus.

Prime Minister Imran Khan attended the session chaired by Speaker Asad Qaisar for a brief time. 

The opposition presented cut motions of Rs 227.15 billion for power division and Rs 25.62 billion in petroleum division. But both the motions were rejected by the majority.

Rs1,153 billion defence budget was approved without any objection from the opposition. 

Meanwhile, the speaker expunged the word 'selected' used by opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif for Prime Minister Imran Khan. The opposition registered protest against the move.
